At St. Joseph Health Center, we realize the importance of offering state-of-the-art medical imaging services. As a leader in technology, we are making sure we’re equipped with the best tools for diagnosing conditions, as well as the most experienced registered nurses and technologists dedicated to providing the best possible care. All radiologists are American College of Radiology board certified.

Medical Imaging Services:
General Radiology
DEXA Scan (Bone Density)
CT Scan
Nuclear Medicine
Ultrasound and Non- Invasive Vascular Lab

General Radiology
State-of-the-art equipment, such as CR (computed radiography) and digital radiography. All technologists are ARRT certified.

In addition to general radiography, our services include:
Upper GI studies
Barium enema
DEXA scan (bone density imaging)
Digital Mammography
With digital mammography, you can expect:

  • A much shorter exam time - approximately half the time of film-based mammograms
  • Greater accuracy and detection - with improved contrast between dense and non-dense tissue
  • Instantly correctable scans - to ensure a clear image and avoid having to schedule another appointment

DEXA Scan (Bone Density)
A bone density scan is a low dose x-ray that checks an area of the body such as the hip or spine for signs of mineral loss and bone thinning. It is a simple, painless and non-invasive procedure. We also offer vertebral fracture assessment (VFA) the spine is imaged using high resolution techniques. This special type of a dexascan is used to detect the smallest vertebral deformities. A dexascan aids in detecting osteoporosis at its earliest stage, enabling immediate treatment to minimize deterioration of bone structure.

Our angiography suite is led by a board certified interventional radiologist and staffed by a team of registered nurses and registered technologists. The angiography suite offers a full range of interventional services provided by highly skilled professionals.

  • Aneurysm stenting
  • Peripheral arterial angiography (cerebral arteriography, archogram, aortography with runoff, selective visceral arteriography)
  • Selective venography
  • Fistulograms of dialysis access graft
  • Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (arterial, venous, dialysis access grafts)
  • Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty with stent deployment
  • Inferior venacava filter placement
  • Medi-port insertion
  • Thrombolytic therapy
  • Selective embolizations (including uterine fibroids)
  • PICC line insertions
  • Carotid stenting
  • Epidurals
  • Paracentesis
  • Nephrostomy
  • Thoracentesis
  • Abcess drainage
  • Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiogram (PTC)
  • Vertebraplasty

CT Scan
As a result of continuous improvements in the speed and usefulness of ct, it has evolved into one of the most useful diagnostic tools available. In accordance with St. Joseph’s Level III Trauma status, the CT department offers on-site 24-hour coverage.

Our medical imaging department houses multi-slice scanners, including the lightspeed 64-slice. This scanner offers sub-second scanning with multiple slices or images per second. In addition to conventional scanning, it has the ability to do CT angiography (CTA) of the coronary arteries, brain, carotids, chest, abdomen, extremities, cardiac scoring, lung windows and bone reconstruction.

Our state-of-the-art multi-slice scanners improve image quality, dramatically reduce scan time and radiation dose. In order to reduce radiation dose during ct exams, St. Joseph Health Center has established dose limits for both adult and pediatric patients, using guidelines established by the ACR (American College Of Radiology).

We offer a full range of services from diagnostic imaging to CT guided interventional procedures. Imaging may be enhanced using oral contrast or intravenous contrast as indicated by diagnosis.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a non-invasive image technique that measures the metabolic activity of cells in the human body. CT and MRI scans only show details about the structure of your body, but PET demonstrates function of different organs of the body.

PET can detect cancer and other diseases before they are evident on other tests. PET involves the use of a small amount of radioactive material that is injected into the patient. The PET scanner then takes pictures of the radioactivity as it travels through the body.

The MRI unit at St. Joseph is a 1.5T offering a wide range of exams, including magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) studies. We utilize EXCITE HD software to provide higher resolution, speed and scanning techniques. This software provides high quality images, which will deliver a more definitive diagnosis. Patients are invited to bring a CD or DVD of their choice to enjoy during the exam.

Nuclear Medicine
Our nuclear medicine department offers state-of-the-art nuclear medicine equipment for both Planar and SPECT imaging. Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are available. We offer a wide range of diagnostic procedures including sentinel node breast localization, lymphoscintegraphy and nuclear stress testing, both pharmologic and exercise.

Ultrasound and Non- Invasive Vascular Lab
Our ultrasound and Non-Invasive Vascular Lab offer a full range of services including:

  • Carotid duplex ultrasound
  • Venous duplex ultrasound (for DVT, vein mapping and venous incompetence)
  • Visceral vascular duplex ultrasound
  • General ultrasound procedures such as thyroid, abdomen and pelvis
  • Interventional procedures such as biopsies, drainage aspirations and thrombin injections
  • Peripheral arterial physiologic tests (extremity pressures, doppler wave forms and exercise testing)
  • Arterial duplex ultrasound
  • Our Ultrasound Department and Non-Invasive Vascular Lab is staffed by a team of ARDMS Registered technologists and a registered nurse.
