Neurosurgery

The neurosurgery service provides operative and nonoperative management of disorders, diseases, and illnesses of the central, peripheral and autonomic nervous system, including the brain, meninges, skull, intracranial and extracranial vasculature of the brain and spinal cord, with treatment by fusion, instrumentation, or endovascular techniques. Recently, a 4-bed neurosurgical intensive care unit was opened on 4 South Extension; this separate unit is dedicated to patients with elective craniotomies, other neurosurgical procedures, and neurosurgery trauma.

All surgeons may admit, evaluate, diagnose, consult, and provide preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative surgical care and correct or treat various condition, illnesses, and injuries of the surgical anatomy. The minimum number of procedures must be performed in a 2-year period to comply with appointment and reappointment criteria.
